NEWMAC Announces 2011 Cross Country Postseason Awards
WELLESLEY, Mass. – The New England
Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference announced its
2011 Cross Country Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Awards on
Thursday, following Monday’s championship meet. MIT’s
Halston Taylor was selected as the league’s Coach of the Year
on both the men’s and women’s side, after guiding his
teams to a pair of NEWMAC titles on Monday. The conference
Sportsmanship awards went to the WPI men’s team and Wellesley
on the women’s side.
Taylor’s MIT squads continued a pair of streaks at
Monday’s meet, with the men winning their 14 consecutive
NEWMAC crown and the women winning for the fifth straight year.
Taylor has now earned a total of 13 NEWMAC Coach of the Year honors
in his career.
Randelle Boots (Seekonk, Mass.) of Wellesley
College won her second consecutive Women’s Runner of the Year
award after placing first overall in the championship race.
Danile Harper (Naperville, Ill.) took home Runner
of the Year accolades on the men’s side. MIT’s
Allen Leung (Arcadia, Calif.) and Elaine
McVay (San Ramon, Calif.) received the NEWMAC Men’s
and Women’s Rookie of the Year distinctions, as the top
freshman finishers in their respective races.
All-Conference accolades were also handed out on Monday, to the
top 14 finishers in the championship for each gender.
