Senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) opened the spring by cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Lia Melvin of No. 7 Johns Hopkins at number one singles in then-No. 14 Babson’s 4-3 season-opening victory over the Blue Jays back on January 31. The nation’s top-ranked player, Cristiani, won her 97th career singles match and tied former teammate Olivia Soffer’s record of 196 combined singles and doubles wins.
