NEWMAC Announces 2009 Women’s Tennis Post-Season Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its 2009 Women's Tennis post-season awards on Tuesday. The two tournament finalists, Wheaton and Wellesley, combined to account for all nine of the First Team nods. After leading Wheaton to its first ever NEWMAC Tournament Championship on Sunday, Lynn Miller was selected as the Coach of the Year. The 2008 Rookie of the Year, Marie Watanabe (Houston, Texas) of Wellesley, was tabbed as this year's Player of the Year while Springfield's Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) was named Rookie of the Year. Clark received the league's annual Sportsmanship Award.

Wheaton's Catherine Teague (Manchester, N.H.) was a First Team All-Conference honoree at No. 2 Singles, as was Rosalyn Chesky (South Hadley, Mass.), at the No. 6 position. In addition to Watanabe, who was also First Team All-Conference at No. 1 Singles, teammates Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta, CANADA), Nathalie Herman (San Francisco, Calif.) and Meghan Stubblebine (Cumming, Ga.) were named to the First Team at their respective positions.

Teague combined with doubles partner Sarah Geocaris (Newport Beach, Calif.) to capture First Team accolades at the No. 1 Doubles slot. Chesky and Ellen Van Faasen (Manchester, Mass.) rounded out Wheaton's honorees at No. 3 Doubles. Watanabe and Stubblebine were the final First Team selection in the No. 2 Doubles position.
