BABSON PARK, Mass.--After wining its seventh New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship in nine years on Sunday, the Babson College women's basketball team will travel to Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham for the first and second rounds of the 2017 NCAA Division III Tournament. The Beavers will take on Messiah College, while the host Devils will face Gwynned-Mercy College in the opening round on Friday.
Led by head coach Judy Blinstrub, who surpassed the 600-win plateau earlier this month, the Green and White is back in the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history. Babson (22-5), which reached the national quarterfinals in 2010 and 2011, earned one of 42 automatic bids by defeating WPI, 65-46, in the NEWMAC final.
Messiah (25-2) is making its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commenwealth championship with a come-from-behind victory on Saturday. FDU-Florham (24-3), which reached the national quarterfinals in 2015, captured its fifth consecutive MAC Freedom title, while Gwynned-Mercy (18-10) won the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) crown to earn the program's ninth NCAA Tournament berth.
Game times for Friday's first round contests will be announced on Tuesday, and a full preview will be posted later this week.
