  • Kopelman Named Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Babson

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College Senior Director of Athletics and Athletic Advancement Mike Lynchannounced the appointment of Michael Kopelman as the head men's and women's tennis coach. Kopelman replaces longtime coach Jim Berrigan, who stepped away in August after a 19-year tenure.
  • Four NEWMAC Student-Athletes Earn Academic All-America At-Large Honors

    AUSTIN, Texas - The New England Women's and Men's Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) saw a total of one men's tennis and three men's swimming and diving student-athletes garner Google Cloud Academic All-America At-Large honors this week. WPI's Jack Bauer, MIT's Bouke Edskes and Sam Solomon took home First Team accolades while MIT's Tyler Barr was honored on Second Team. Bauer earned his second career Academic All-America award while Solomon, Edskes and Barr received honors for the first time in their career.
  • MIT Men's Tennis Falls to No. 24 Johns Hopkins, 5-1, in Tight NCAA Tournament Second Round Match

    The Lead: In a close NCAA Tournament second round match, the MIT men's tennis team fell to No. 24 Johns Hopkins University, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at Middlebury College. This was the first meeting in the history of both programs.
  • MIT Cruises Past Cabrini, 5-0, in NCAA Tournament First Round Match

    The Lead: In the first meeting between both programs, MIT defeated Cabrini University, 5-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon at Middlebury College. Including the unfinished matches, the Engineers surrendered only four games during the day.
  • NEWMAC Announces 2018 Men's Tennis Postseason Honors

    WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2018 Men's Tennis Postseason Awards on Wednesday morning. After helping lead MIT to the conference title and automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship, Tyler Barr was named the Athlete of the Year. After spending most of his rookie campaign at No. 1 Singles boasting a 13-5 (8-2) record, Babson's Andre Libnic was named the Rookie of the Year.

    The Lead: Squaring off in the NEWMAC Men's Tennis Championship for the sixth straight year, host and No. 1 seed MIT came out on top as it defeated No. 2 Babson College, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon. The Engineers won their 20th consecutive conference title and earned the league's automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament. In addition, junior Alex Cauneac (Severna Park, Md.) was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player for his performance this past week.

    BABSON PARK, Mass.—The second-seeded Babson College men’s tennis team erased a 3-0 deficit after doubles by winning five of six singles matches en route to a thrilling 5-4 victory over the third-seeded Coast Guard Academy in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament semifinal on Wednesdayafternoon at the Babson Tennis Center. 
  • Babson's Libnic and Roque Claim NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    Senior Ben Roque and first-year Andre Libnic wrapped up an unbeaten season in conference play with a pair of victories at number two doubles. The duo defeated Michal Zhao and Pablo Ampudia of MIT 8-2 on Monday and then picked up a 9-8 (8-4) win in the Beavers' 7-2 triumph at Wheaton on Wednesday.

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – With the conclusion of the regular season this evening the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the seeds for the 2018 Men’s Tennis Championship on Wednesday. Clinching the top seed and regular season title with their perfect 6-0 record is MIT. The Engineers have earned hosting rights for one semifinal matchup while Babson (5-1) earned the No. 2 seed and will also host a semifinal. 
  • Babson's Rosenbluth and Kolesnik Sweep NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Rosenbluth extended his winning streak to four with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories last week at number two singles. The Beavers' number one doubles pairing of Brandon Rosenbluth and Chris Kolesnik extended their winning streak to five.

    Libnic continued his strong play at number one singles with a pair of straight-set victories last week. The Beavers number one doubles pairing of junior Brandon Rosenbluth and first-year Chris Kolesnik ran their winning streak to three with a pair of easy wins.
  • MIT's Barr and Doubles Team of Go/Zhao Sweep NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    MIT men's tennis junior Tyler Barr guided the Engineers to a 2-0 week, which included an 8-1 win over Vassar and a 9-0 shutout victory over Clark to open NEWMAC play. Sophomore Albert Go and freshman Michael Zhao teamed up at No. 2 doubles for the MIT men's tennis team this week and went 2-0 only conceding a total of five games.

    Libnic stayed unbeaten at number one singles by rallying from a first-set deficit to defeat Jackson Kogan, the region's 21st-ranked player, 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (14-12) in the Beavers' loss to nationally-ranked Brandeis on Wednesday.

    De Mendiola picked up a pair of dominating wins at number one singles as Babson won all three of its matches in Florida last week. Sophomore Alberto De Mendiola and junior Brandon Rosenbluth went 2-0 at number one singles to help Babson win all of its matches in Florida last week.
  • Springfield's Romaine and Honda Sweep NEWMAC Weekly Accolades

    Romaine was dominant for Springfield as the Pride he won all four of his matches at the No. 1 singles spot. Honda and Romaine had a great spring break trip in Florida, helping Springfield to a 4-1 record, including four victories in each of their doubles appearances at the No. 1 spot for the Pride.
  • Babson's De Mendiola and Rosenbluth Take Home NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    De Mendiola opened the spring with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Chris Kirkpatrick at number one singles in Babson's 9-0 win against Endicott on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers' top doubles duo of junior Brandon Rosenbluth and sophomore Alberto De Mendiola picked up an 8-3 victory in the team's 9-0 win over Endicott in the spring opener on Sunday.
  • NEWMAC Reveals 2018 Men's Tennis Preseason Poll, MIT Tabbed as Favorite

    WESTWOOD, Mass. - The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2018 Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches' Poll on Thursday afternoon. Following the programs 19th consecutive conference crown in 2017, the MIT Engineers have been tabbed as the preseason favorites as they brought in six first place votes. Voting for the preseason poll is conducted by the head men's tennis coaches.
