WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the 2017-18 Men's Swimming and Diving Coaches of the Year as well as the All-Sportsmanship Team Recipients on Wednesday afternoon. Coast Guard's head coach, John Westkott has been voted the Men's Swimming Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season while Springfield's Peter Avdoulos was voted the Men's Diving Coach of the Year for the 13th time.
Westkott led the Bears to a second place team finish at the 2017-18 NEWMAC Championship while coaching the Rookie of the Year, Eric Fuhs. Avdoulos coached four male Divers during the championship highlighted by two silver medal finishes by freshman Connor Pennington.
Also being recognized are the seven men's swimming and diving student-athletes that were named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
Recognized during the final ceremony of the 2017-18 NEWMAC Championship, MIT's Bouke Edskes, Sam Solomon and Coast Guard's Fuhs garnered major.
