  • Waggoner Named Wheaton's Head Men's Soccer Coach

    NORTON, Mass. –Director of Athletics and Recreation John Sutyak '00 has announced the hiring of Bryan Waggoner as the next head men's soccer coach at Wheaton College. Waggoner joins the Wheaton staff as the fifth head coach in program history after serving as head coach at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Va. for the last 11 seasons. 
  • NEWMAC See's Three Earn CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors for Men's Soccer

    AUSTIN, Texas - On Tuesday afternoon CoSIDA announced the 2017 Men's Soccer Academic All-Americans. After successful seasons both on the field and in the classroom the NEWMAC saw three men's soccer student-athletes honored. Coast Guard's Austin Read earned First Team honors while Springfield's Brad Deckel and MIT's Ryan Stuntz garnered Second Team honors. To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
  • No. 23/25 Springfield Closes Season Against No. 16/18 Amherst in NCAA Championship Tournament Second Round

    AMHERST, Mass. - The Springfield College men's soccer team put forth a great effort, but fell to Amherst College in a penalty-kick shootout that decided the team that advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Sweet 16 on Sunday afternoon at Hitchcock Field. With the result, the Pride closes its season with a record of 15-1-3, while the Mammoths improve to 12-3-3 on the year.
  • No. 23/25 Springfield College Wins First-Ever NCAA Championship Tournament Game; Defeats Endicott, 1-0, in First Round

    AMHERST, Mass. - Senior captain Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) found the back of the net just 4:46 into the second half to lift the nationally-ranked Springfield College men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Endicott College in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament First Round, hosted at Hitchcock Field on the campus of Amherst College. 
  • WPI Ties No. 6 SUNY Oneonta; Red Dragons Advance to NCAA Second Round

    ONEONTA, N.Y. - WPI's defense was brilliant as the Engineers tied No. 6 SUNY Oneonta before the hosts advanced following the sixth round of penalty kicks in the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship. The Red Dragons (15-1-3) will face the winner of today's second game between Rochester and Conn. College tomorrow at 1pm.
  • NCAA Bound: WPI and Springfield to Represent NEWMAC at NCAA National Championship

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Committee announced the field of 62 teams for the 2017 NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer Championship. Forty-two conferences were awarded automatic qualification for the championship. One team was selected from Pool B, which consists of independent institutions, as well as members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification. The final 19 berths were reserved for Pool C, which includes institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that did not win their conference championship and any remaining Pool B teams. The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) will see two institutions represent the conference as WPI earned the automatic qualifier followed by at at-large bid for Springfield.
  • NEWMAC Releases 2017 Men's Soccer Postseason Awards

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced the Men’s Soccer All-Conference and Postseason Awards on Tuesday morning. After an impressive 2017 season, leading the conference in goals and total points, Wheaton’s Amara Sesay has been named the Athlete of the Year. Helping lead Coast Guard to one of the most impressive seasons in program history highlighted with 11 shutouts, Austin Read has been named the Defensive Player of the Year while MIT’s Loukas Carayannopoulos was voted the 2017 Rookie of the Year. 
  • WPI Defeats Springfield for NEWMAC Crown in PK Thriller

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - With penalty kicks even at 1-1 heading into the fourth round, WPI seniors Pavolas Christidis (Fairport, NY) and Ryan Stokes (Fairport, NY) provided go-ahead and game-winning kicks while classmate Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT) did the work between the pipes to secure the 2017 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship following a scoreless draw with Springfield Sunday at Brock-Affleck Field. The NEWMAC Co-Regular Season Champions also played to a scoreless tie back on October 21.
  • Top-Seeded Springfield Defeats No. 4 Clark , 3-2; Advances to NEWMAC Championship for Second-Straight Year

    SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Behind goals from Dexter Tenn (South Windsor, Conn.), Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) and Keon Haji (Shrewsbury, Mass.), the Springfield College men's soccer team advanced to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship game with a 3-2 win over Clark University on Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) is pleased to announce the 2017 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Academic All-Conference Team. The NEWMAC men's soccer student-athletes compiled a total of 56 honorees this year.
  • No. 4 Clark Advances to NEWMAC Semifinals in Penalty Kicks with No. 5 MIT

    WORCESTER, Mass. - With 2:35 to play in the opening half, MIT freshman Loukas Carayannopoulos (Westfield, N.J.) gave the visiting Engineers a 1-0 lead on his eighth goal of the season. The freshman forced a turnover, gathered the ball from about 30 yards out and ripped a shot off the crossbar as the ball bounced straight down into the net to give MIT the advantage at the break.

    Monroe was a vital piece of the Cougars 2-0 victory over cross-town foe, WPI on Saturday in their lone game of the week. Senior goalkeeper Maguire was solid between the pipes over the weekend as the Cougars soared to an impressive 2-0 victory over WPI.
  • NEWMAC Reveals Men's Soccer Championship Bracket, Springfield Takes Top Seed

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – With the conclusion of the 2017 men's soccer regular season this afternoon, the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has released the 2017 NEWMAC Men's Soccer Championship bracket. The men's soccer championship consists of five teams that will compete for the crown which will begin on Wednesday, November 1st with the quarterfinal round. 
  • Wheaton's Sesay and MIT's Cowham Earn NEWMAC Weekly Nod

    Amara Sesay tallied three goals and a pair of assists for a total of eight points in the Lyons' 6-1 win over Emerson. MIT sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Cowham led the Engineers to a 1-0-1 week (both shutout performances) with a 2-0 victory over UMass Boston and a 0-0 double overtime draw at Coast Guard.
  • WPI's Nemes and Springfield's Powell Names NEWMAC Athletes of the Week

    In the first game since the exam break, Nemes notched both goals in a crucial 2-1 overtime win versus Coast Guard on Saturday. Cam Powell, a senior defender for Springfield College, helped the Pride to a 3-0 week, highlighted by three shut-out victories.

  • Coast Guard's Hall and Springfield's Frank Claim NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    Junior Alex Hall led the Bears to a 2-0 week scoring four goals including two in a key NEWMAC win over Clark 3-0 Saturday afternoon. Stewart Frank, a junior goalkeeper for Springfield College, was instrumental in a pair of wins for the Pride last week, leading the maroon and white to an overall record of 10-0-0 to start the year.
  • Springfield's Schneider and Coast Guard's Hassett Headline NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    Christian Schneider, a junior forward for Springfield College, had six points in two games this past week, leading the Pride to wins over Wentworth and Clark. Sophomore Brock Hassett helped lead the Bears to two shutouts this past week, including score the game winning goal in the Bears 2-0 win over Mitchell.
  • Springfield's Murphy and WPI's Peterson Claim NEWMAC Weekly Awards

    Danny Murphy, a senior midfielder for Springfield College, had the game-winning goal against Babson this past weekend. Peterson provided a pair of assists in a 2-0 week for the Engineers. Defensively, the Crimson and Gray yielded only one goal on 11 shots.
  • WPI's Beatty and Springfield's Davis Claim NEWMAC Weekly Honors

    Beatty scored twice in the second half to propel WPI to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Babson. Harry Davis, a senior defender for Springfield College, had the game-deciding goal in a win over Coast Guard in the Pride's season opener on Saturday.

    Shawn McCall registered two goals in as many games for the Lyons this week. Brad Deckel, a junior defender at Springfield College, helped the Pride to a 3-0 week including wins over Gordon, Westfield State and Steven.
  • Babson's Ziad and Greenspan Sweep Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

    Ziad had a monster weekend with two goals and one assist for five points in wins over St. Lawrence and Clarkson. Greenspan put in two strong performances at center back as the Beavers opened with back-to-back wins over St. Lawrence and Clarkson.

    WESTWOOD, Mass. – After a riveting 2016 NEWMAC Men’s Soccer tournament last fall the NEWMAC is excited to see what 2017 will bring. After claiming the Regular Season Crown in 2016 Babson has been tabbed as the preseason favorites with six first place votes. Reigning Champions, Springfield has been slated at No. 2 with one first place vote.
