NEWMAC Football Offensive Athlete of the Week

Ryan Jones, Coast Guard (Jr., QB – Punxsutawney, Pa.)

Jones threw three touchdown passes as Coast Guard captured the Secretaries' Cup for the first time since 2014 with a 26-12 over archrival Merchant Marine. Jones finished 22 of 42 for 269 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. It was Coast Guard's first win at Merchant Marine since 1996 and the first road win in the series for head coach Bill George. The Bears finish 7-3 overall and 5-2 in the NEWMAC. The seven wins for the Bears are the most since the team finished 8-2 and won the NEFC Bogan Division in 2007. 

NEWMAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week

Jake Behne, Coast Guard (Sr., LB – Clifton, Va.)

Behne had a career-high 18 tackles, 15 solo to finish the season with 103. He had a key interception which he returned 22 yards to the MMA 30 with 35 second left the first half setting up the Bears go ahead touchdown. The defense held MMA to just 58 yards and shut them out in the second half of the win. 

NEWMAC Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week

Spencer Herrington, WPI (Sr., K/P – Clearfield, Pa.)

Herrington provided two field goals, including a career-long of 42, and two PATs in the first half a 20-17 triumph over Norwich on Saturday. He also punted five times for an average of 37.0 yards, including one for 54 yards and one downed inside the 20. The victory secured the Engineers fourth consecutive winning season for the first time in a quarter century.
