NEWMAC Football Offensive Athlete of the Week

Nick Bainter, Springfield (Jr., OL, East Bridgewater, Mass.)  

Bainter was tremendous on the offensive line for Springfield in the Pride's 42-0 shutout over Kean University on Saturday. The Preseason All-American center directed the Pride's offense to 432 yards of total offense, including 418 on the ground. Springfield produced 27 first downs, averaged 6.5 yards per carry, and had five players with at least 50 rushing yards. 

NEWMAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week

Nick Giorgio, Springfield (Sr., DE, Cumberland, R.I.)

Nick led a defensive effort that resulted in Springfield's first shutout of the season and second in its last five games dating back to last season as the Pride blanked Kean, 42-0. Giorgio, who was tabbed the 2018 Preseason National Defensive Player of the Year, totaled 10 tackles, five solo and five assisted, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, a sack, forced fumble, and pass break up. His efforts on the line spearheaded a unit that limited Kean to 10 first downs, 157 yards of total offense and just three yards per play, as well as 3-for-12 on third down conversions. Springfield, which has won its last 12 regular season games, is allowing just 10.5 points per game this season. 

 

NEWMAC Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week

Jakai Whittingham, Springfield (Sr., Meriden, Conn.)

In his season debut, Whittingham was tremendously valuable for Springfield in the Pride's 42-0 win over Kean on Saturday. The senior was called on to punt three times and was especially consistent, averaging 41.3 yards per punt, with a long of 43 yards.
