NEWMAC Athletes of the Week (for week ending October 22nd)

Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week

Maggie Kennedy, Springfield (Sr, Clay, N.Y.)

Maggie Kennedy led the Pride to three wins this past week, including its 11th of the year, marking the most wins the program has seen since Springfield College claimed 12 victories in 2009. Kennedy registered 15 points in the three games, with seven goals and added an assist. The senior forward notched a pair in a 4-2 win over Clark, before posting two goals and an assist in a 7-1 result with Johnson & Wales. Closing out the week, Kennedy posted three goals in a 5-2 win over Wheaton on Saturday.

Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week

Cameo Tietje, Smith (Sr, Massapequa, N.Y.)

Tietje led Smith to a 2-1 record this past week with conference wins over WPI and Mount Holyoke. The senior goalkeeper posted a 1.33 goals against average and .857 save percentage over the three games. Against WPI, Tietje made three saves and stopped a season-high 15 shots against No. 10 Amherst. Tietje recorded six saves in a 2-0 shutout over Mount Holyoke.

Football Offensive Athlete of the Week

Jordan Wilcox, Springfield (Sr, FB, Saratoga Springs, N.Y.)

Wilcox put together a dominant first half for Springfield as the senior fullback carried the ball 13 times for 212 yards while finding the end zone three times as he averaged just over 16 yards per carry. In the Pride's 68-20 win over Catholic, Wilcox did not see the field in the second half as the Pride churned out 457 yards of total offense, including 408 rushing yards in the opening 30 minutes. Springfield finished the game with 674 yards of offense, 625 of which came on the ground, and to date ranks fourth in the country in rushing yards (1,241) and total touchdowns (15).

Football Defensive Athlete of the Week

Cahan Quinn, Norwich (So, ILB, Putnam, Conn.)

Quinn was essential on the defensive unit that helped lead Norwich to a 24-22 victory over conference opponent Maine Maritime. The sophomore amassed 17 total tackles (8 solo), 1 pass break up, 1 forced fumble and .5 tackles for a loss.

Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week

Spencer Herrington, WPI (Jr, K/P, Clearfield, Pa.)

Herrington accounted for just over a quarter of WPI's scoring in a 41-7 home triumph vs Merchant Marine Saturday. He went 5-for-5 on extra point attempts and drilled a 35- and a 36-yard field goal for the Engineers. Through seven games, the junior is 8-for-9 in field goals and 27-for-27 in PATs for a total of 51 points. Herrington also booted eight punts, including a pair that landed inside the 20.

Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week

Amara Sesay, Wheaton (Sr, Bronx, N.Y.)

Amara Sesay tallied three goals and a pair of assists for a total of eight points in the Lyons' 6-1 win over Emerson. The senior's three goals are a product of six total shots on the day for a .500 shot percentage. Sesay's eight points ties the program record for points in a game, last reached in 1999.

Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Jeremy Cowham, MIT (So, Qunicy, Mass.)

MIT sophomore goalkeeper Jeremy Cowham led the Engineers to a 1-0-1 week (both shutout performances) with a 2-0 victory over UMass Boston and a 0-0 double overtime draw at Coast Guard. Cowham picked up his fifth and sixth shutouts of the year - a career-high for the sophomore - with five saves against the Beacons and a trio of stops against the Bears. Cowham now has a 0.813 save percentage and six shutouts, both of which rank second in the NEWMAC. By shutting out Coast Guard, Cowham also kept MIT in line for a postseason berth.

Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week

Olivia Struckman, MIT (Sr, Scottsdale, Ariz)

Senior Olivia Struckman posted three goals and one assist for five points this week in a pair of NEWMAC wins against Babson (2-1 2OT) and Springfield (4-0). With those stats, Struckman took over sole possession of first place in the league in total goals (11 - career high) and points (24). Struckman began the week by scoring the equalizing goal against Babson and then against Springfield, the 10th ranked team in New England, Struckman scored MIT's first two goals and handed out her assist on the Engineers' final goal of the day

Women's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
